History of Grama Panchayat
History
There are many stories told by the ancients about the origin of the name Peruvembu. There are three main reasons why this name came about. One is that Cheraman Perumal Maharaja stayed in this village for one hundred and one days and one hundred and one days, and he built a pond and a temple in every area he stayed in, and in this way he built a total of one hundred and one ponds and one hundred and one temples. Thus, the name Peruvembu is said to have come from the name Perumal. It is said that in the past, there were many large neem trees and the name Peruvampu came from Perum neem. The important temple in this area is the Sree Oottukulangara Bhagavathikshetram. The temple houses the deity of Bhagavathi. In Tamil, Bhagavathi is called Ambal, so the ancients say that the name Peruvembu came from the epithet Periya Ambal.
